A Learning Program for NYC Child Welfare, Foster Care and Juvenile Justice Professionals

About the LGBTQAI+ Virtual Training

In this training, participants will learn to apply the policies and best practices used to promote the safety, permanency, and well-being of LGBTQAI+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Asexual, Intersex and, many more) youths involved with NYC Children’s Services and contracted providers. During this 2-day, 4-hour course, learners will practice creating affirming environments where all are respected regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression.

Who Should Attend?

This course is intended for DCP, Foster Care, Prevention, DYFJ, Direct Service Staff and Supervisors/Managers.

Benefits of the Program

Participants will:

  • Demonstrate behaviors that cultivate LGBTQAI+ affirming and inclusive environments within NYC Children’s Services and provider agencies.
  • Adopt practices that are in alignment with ACS’ affirming policies while engaging young people that are or may be LGBTQAI+
  • Be able to support staff in managing issues that arise with parents, foster parents, and caregivers of LGBTQIA+ youths
  • Implement strategies that improve outcomes for LGBTQAI+ youth involved in NYC Children’s Services and provider agencies.
  • Commit to practicing LGBTQAI+ affirming strategies.

Course Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites required to take this course.

Course Components

Once enrolled in the course, learners will complete:

  • An online pre-test before the day of class.
  • A 4 hours interactive, two-day, virtual instructor-led workshop.
  • An online post-test.

Completion of all components is necessary to receive a Certificate of Completion.
