About Understanding Substance Misuse and Its Effect on Families

The New York City Administration for Children’s Services would like to ensure that children, young people, and families receive assistance addressing substance use related issues. Child welfare and juvenile justice professionals who participate in this eLearning course will increase their understanding of substance use, how to identify the signs and symptoms of various drugs that may be misused, and how to use this information to better assist families who may be affected by a substance use disorder.

Who Should Attend?

This course is designed for direct service staff and supervisors in child welfare and juvenile justice.

Benefits of the Program

Participants will:

  • Explain Substance Use Disorder and how substance use can affect the brain.
  • Identify signs and symptoms of the various types of drugs that may be misused.
  • Recognize the impact of substance misuse on child safety and family functioning.
