About the Motivational Interviewing: A Strengths-Based Practice Virtual Training

This virtual course will consist of a combination of eLearning modules and virtual synchronous sessions. Learners will first complete a 30-minute eLearning module introducing them to motivational interviewing as a strengths-based engagement practice model promoting a collaborative approach. Learners will then participate in a 90-minute Instructor-led virtual session where they will learn to demonstrate the spirit and strategically use the skills of Motivational Interviewing to strengthen their interviewing and engagement skills to gather information necessary to make accurate assessments.

Who Should Attend?

This course is designed for all staff in Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice.

Course Prerequisites

Prior to attending this course, learners are required to have completed: 

  • An online pre-test accessed through the Cornerstone Learning Management System. 
  • A 30 minute, interactive, online eLearning module.

Course Components

Once enrolled in the course, learners will complete: 

  • An online pre-test accessed before the day of class. 
  • An 30 minute, interactive, online eLearning module. 
  • An interactive, 90-minute virtual instructor-led workshop. 
  • An online post-test.

Completion of all components is necessary to receive a Certificate of Completion.

Continuing Education Credits

The New York City Administration for Children’s Services is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #SW-0402. This course is 1.5 contact hours/0.15 CEUs. CEU credit is contingent upon completion of all course components.
