A Learning Program for NYC Child Protection Staff
Collaborative Assessment, Response, Engagement and Support(CARES)/Family Assessment Response (FAR) is New York State’s alternative approach to providing child protection that engages families in assessing child safety and family needs, finding solutions to meet their needs, and increasing their ability to care for their children. CARES/FAR does not require an investigation, determination of allegations, and individual culpability of families reported to the State Central Registry (SCR). With CARES/FAR, Child Protection staff work in partnership with families to address problems that could affect child safety. CARES/FAR is also a racial equity strategy to address disproportionality and disparity for Black and Latinx families that become known to the SCR who are low-to-moderate risk.
This program is designed for staff who work in Child Protection.
