About Asthma Self-Management

This learning program will provide information and practical applications to child welfare professionals (CWPs) on how to support New York City families to better control asthma. The course supports CWPs to engage families using strengths-based engagement. The program provides suggestions on how CWPs can discuss and support medication adherence and asthma trigger management.

Who Should Attend?

This program is designed for all child welfare professionals.

Benefits of the Program

Participants will:

  • Define asthma and its symptoms, including how asthma affects the airways and what to do in emergency situations.
  • Engage families around asthma, including self-monitoring, control, and medication adherence.
  • Identify asthma triggers in the home setting and support families in trigger management.

Course Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites required to take this course.

Course Components

Once enrolled in the course, learners will complete:

  • An online pre-test.
  • A one-hour, interactive, online eLearning module.
  • An online post-test.

Completion of all components is necessary to receive a Certificate of Completion.

Continuing Education Units

The New York City Administration for Children’s Services is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #SW-0402. This course is 1 contact hour/0.1 CEUs. CEU credit is contingent upon completion of all course components.
